Mini No. 2
I decided to try out another Space Marine, slightly different, just to practice some more. This time I didn’t have a tutorial to follow along with though. My inspiration for this one is going to be Hello Kitty though. I have no idea what I am doing so wish me luck. Her name is Furiosa.

So same as last time, cut out parts, X-acxto knife to clean the parts, used plastic glue to assemble and this time tried out some white primer. Also, I did the basing first, just by gluing down some coarse sand.
I really wanted to get a really light soft pink on this mini, but I found it hard to find one in the paints we sell at Card Kingdom. I have a darker/brighter Vellejo pink, so I thought I would dilute it with some white and it would be great. It was not. As you can see the pink is harsh and bright and messy. Not exactly what I wanted at all.
At least it allows me to see what the white and pink colour placement would look like. I realized that it is very difficult to have large areas of white, such as the shoulder pads. Its difficult to make it look even and I dont even want to think about shading.
I had been pretty heavy handed with the paint (I’m working on that) so I was worried that if I wanted to cover the whole thing with a layer of paint again it would eat up any details the armor had. But if I wanted the colours to be right I had to bite the bullet and do it. I for a pretty P3 pink and started again. So I did that and then used the colour I had used above as a wash in the creases.
It looks much more like what I had pictures in my head now. Phew. Moment of panic over. Next I wanted to make the shoulder pads completely gold with white details. Oh, and I forgot to mention earlier that I made her piping and pints gray. So I added a black wash to it to bring out some of the details.
As you can kind of see, but not really, I wanted the blades to be metallic, but with a hint of pink in them. So I simply took the metal paint I wanted to use and then added some pink to it. I really like the way that worked out, I want a sword like that. Also, she has skull icons on her chest and gloves to I made them white. Oh, and I made her hair black.
Lets see…. Next I focussed on her jetpack. I made it white and light gray. I added a black wash all over, selectively, to give depth. The skull is gold. Oh, and then I dry brushed the gray parts with a very light silver to give it a metal appearance. The white part ended up a little messy, but I like how it makes it look used and a little beat up. I was worried about this mini not coming together right, but I think at this stage I am able to see it.

So now it was time to tidy off the last few details, like colouring the basing to look like rubble and coating the outside of the base with black to make it neat. I also coloured in her medals. So then the very last final fun part was to add the Blood For the Blood God, a paint that stays looking like blood even once its dry. She is soooo badass.

So here she is all finished. I gave her a quick coat of varnish to seal the paint.
Now that she is finished I really like her. Since i didn’t have a tutorial for this one it was really scary and I make lots of mistakes. Again, I still have to learn colour placement and not to be so heavy handed with the paint I use.
