Mini No. 5
The second mini of my March paint pledge was Damiel. A reaper mini that is an alchemist with lots of flasks and bottles. I thought he would be a ton of fun to paint. Little did I know he would be the most challenging mini so far. I decided to prime in white as I wanted this mini to have a ton of bright colours.
I started with the largest part of this mini. His coat. There are not all that many sections of this mini that are deep at the centre, so it was actually easier to base coat most of the sections and then shade and highlight. This turquoise colour was really difficult. It seems to be made of two different colours in the bottle that sometimes separate out. It made finding matching shades for shading and highlighting really awkward. I think I repainted this coat like 10 times before I got it to an acceptable level. I ended up shading with a diluted black wash.
I then started on the leather parts of the undercoat and the details on the front and back of the mini and doing some shading.
The fun part was adding all of the colours to the test tubes and bottles. The bright colours really look great.
As you can see when I was varnishing the model I made sure most of it was varnished with matte. Buttons and all of the bottles where varnished in gloss. I even added some white to make it look like a reflection. I added some flower meadow to the base and I think he turned out just great!

Just for Clarification.
What does painting miniatures (which look really nice) have to do with feminism?

I’m a feminist, I like painting minis and the name was clever. I do try to avoid minis that I find offensive and are clearly designed for a male audience… theres way too many of those.
