Stormcast Eternal Lord Celestant on Dracolith

Mini No 12

I had one other mini from the Age of Sigmar starter box. Previously I painted the Warhammer Fantasy – Stormcast Eternal Prosecutor using pinks and golds. I think painting them in a theme would look really cool so I tried that. 2016-02-03 23.41.55

As you can see there are a bunch of gaps in this model, over the guys shoulders, where the beasts mouth meets and there were even a few pieces cracked off. The damage is mainly since I grabbed the bits for this mini out of a communal box that people had gone through a few times before. So it was time to get to some green stuffing. I used both putty green stuff and liquid green stuff.

Once I felt relatively good about all the cracks being covered and bits here and there being fixed I primed the mini in white. I want the colours of the mini to pop. It is about now that I realize that maybe I shouldn’t have glued the whole mini together before painting it because there are tons of places that will be super difficult to reach with a brush.2016-05-19 18.18.32

I started with its skin, I love this bright pink colour, its so pretty. I painted it all over pink with this super soft powder pink, then I washed it with a bright pink, which darkened it down a lot. So I decided to dry brush it again with the lighter pink to bring back the colour I wanted but also to show the depth in the cracks of the skin.

I added the gold armor next. I use a dark gold as all over, it gives it an expensive aged look. I black wash it with nuln oil, I used a brown wash before bit it was too warm. And then I dry brushed the extreme highlights with a brighter gold to give it more depth.

The next step was to add this beautiful deep purple. I think the combo of pink, gold and purple is really great. The colours all work super well together. The purple is in the details of the beasts armor and the soldiers armor and cloak. I used a purple wash on the cloak and tried to highlight a bit. I think that is where this mini fell down in quality, the shade and highlight of the purple. I opted for less so that I wouldn’t mess it up. The details of the cloak and armor are painted in white to really make them pop.

Now it was time to add all the final details. The weapon he is holding. The banner was painted with a beige colour and then washed with sepia, I always the way that this comes out in the end, highlighted with a brighter beige.

TIme to finish up the fine details. Fill in the beasts eyes, paint the basing gray, black wash and then dry brush back a little to give texture. The beasts mouth painted red and given texture with a dark red wash. There is a cloth under the saddle that I painted bright pink, its the same colour that I used to wash the beasts skin with. The deep purple is super pretty. Lastly, the hair. And that is how I think it really harkens back to the other AOS mini I painted because the wings were painted the same. I really like the gradient effect.

Here it is all finished, I cleaned up the white a little and completed the basing. I really have to work on my shading and highlighting skillz.
