Finaela, Pirate (Reaper 77131) and Rivet Wars – Paint and Take

Mini No 14 and 15

I was at Origins games fair just over a month ago and was really feeling the itch to paint some minis. Paint and Take is an event at a lot of Hobby Gaming Conventions that can scratch that itch for you. You arrive, pay a small fee, it was $2 in this case, and you get a mini to paint. They provide brushes and paints and someone is there to help you along if you have never painted before or have some basic questions.

The mini I chose to paint from a small selection was Finaela, Pirate (Reaper 77131). I definitely wanted to paint something that I actually cared about and would think would be fun to paint. This event was run by Reaper in the Reaper space, so I assume I could also have purchased a mini and painted it at the Paint and Take.

These Reaper bones minis are made from a type of plastic that doesn’t require you to prime the mini so you can get straight to painting. Im sorry that I didn’t get any photos of the painting of this one, but below is the final result. We were provided with some okay brushes and maybe 7 paints to work with. I think I did pretty good on this one especially since I only had like an hour to paint it. It was a great way to take some relaxing time out of the con and just focus on something else for a while.

I went back later in the con to do another session so I picked a mini from Rivet Wars. This one I wasn’t worried about finishing, I just wanted to focus on shading and blending. For my first attempt at this type of painting I think I did a really good job. I do really want to paint more like this, with that level of detail and shading. I just need to get better haha.
