I promised a friend that I would paint him a mini, but he doesn’t play role playing games or minis games at all, so it was to be more decorative or just humorous. He is super into Dragon Ball and said his favorite parts where the Androids. I looked at the minis I had and that we sell in the store I work at. The best combination that I could find was Android 14 and a Reaper mini for a monk. His dumb sword kept cracking off, I will be gluing it back on later after everything else it painted.
Since this mini is based on a cartoon I wanted the colours to really pop and that is why I primed him in white. I want the colours to be very bright and strong. I also based him on gravel or dirt. I plan to put leaves around him to give some more atmosphere.
I started with his skin. I have never painted a non skin colour as skin before so I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. I thought that if I completely mess it up I can just start again without too much hassle. It worked out pretty well though so I simply washed it with a gray wash.
I then started blocking in some of the other colours. I like to do this so that I can see if the colours will actually work together.
Once I was happy with the colours I did some light highlighting and shading. I didn’t want to go over the top or too natural.

Looking at the final minis I think they turned out quite well. I do think that with the previous mini I painted I realized that I wasn’t all that good at shading and highlighting, so worried that I would mess it up I almost did none of it at all. I gotta get my mojo back and really go for it next time.
