Mini No. 18
So my favorite board game is XCOM and my favorite video game is Mass Effect. The themes match up super well, so why not paint all the minis Mass Effect like.

I began with the interceptors because I thought they would make good Alliance Normandy SR2 ships from Mass Effect. See the reference image that I used below and see what the XCOM interceptors are like.
So lets get started. I primed them gray since there is a lot of silver on the Normandy. This would give me the closest starting colour right from the start. I then used a metallic blue and painted it onto each of the 8 interceptors that come with the game.
Following that I did the same with the silver and then black. Making sure to correct any mistakes I made with the blue and correcting along the way. Following that I repeated this on all 8 interceptors. I love how they actually look like mini Normandy’s.
Next was to do a heavy wash all over these guys with Nuln oil, top and bottom. It makes them look a bunch more realistic with the shading and they look a little worn and oily.
As soon as they were dry I gave them a very light highlighting on the silver parts to make them pop a little more.

Lastly, I really wanted the window of the cockpit to stand out more, so I varnished all these beauties with Testors Dullcoat and then used a glossy varnish on the window.

Now that they are all done and ready to go I popped them into this little plastic case to keep them safe and since they are varnished they are ready to be played with!

See you next week when we tackle those pesky UFOs
