Mini No 21
I have an amazing friend and I wanted to do a nice thing for her, so I offered to paint her a mini for her Pathfinder character. Here is the info I had on the character. Her name is Samaidriel, she’s an Elven Exalted of Desna (essentially a glorified cleric). Light brunette, with green eyes. Her weapons are daggers and a starknife. She’s very feminine, wearing deep pink robes under her chain shirt which has Desna’s holy symbol on the back (a blueish purple butterfly). Her colours are pinks, purples, and midnight blue are her goddess’s colors.
Here is the mini I chose.
She also comes with a selection of 4 different weapons to chose from one of which is a large dagger or short sword. She is dignified and elegant and could most certainly pass for a cleric.
I primed her in black, I wanted the colours to really have depth and dimension. Instead of having the colours to pop as much as I usually do I opted for deeper shadows this time around.

So I wanted this pretty deep pink to be the main colour of this mini so most of the dress is that colour. It took several thin layers to have the colour come out this punchy. I then used a heavy watch of nuln oil to give the shadows a lot of depth. I could have used a pink or purple wash, but when I tried it it didn’t give me as much of a dramatic look that I was hoping for. Lastly I dry brushed and manually added highlights with a brighter pink.
Time to add some midnight blue to give more contrast. The shawl and tabard ended up being blue and then I also added some pink detail. The shadows and highlights were achieved in the same way as on the pink.
Finally to the details. I added some skin colour to the arms and face. I used a sepia wash to give details to the face and then added the eyes. I also added a small amount of pink to the lips.
Then I added the light brown hair, essentially I added the past colour, an agrax eartshade wash and a bright dry brush to make it pop. I added the pink to the flower in her hair. And I did the same to the satchel and belt she wears. Oh, and I finished up on the sword.
Now to the base. I wanted to try something a little different. I tried to make it look like she was standing at the edge of a lake. So I cut the centre out of a traditional base to make it deeper. Then I added a button to it using some clear plastic I had laying around. I then glued into it some sand at varying depths.
Then I glued down some larger rocks, this is at the edge of the lake to make it look like they are pocking through the water and give it more dimension.
I painted the base using different greens to make it look mossy and like there is some life and undergrowth under the water. I used the valejo still water that they have. In the end it took about 10 or so applications because it shrinks quite a bit, but after a while it really build up and you can see right through the water.
I added some flocking and pinned the mini to the base and we are done!
