For Christmas I decided I would paint our copy of the Scythe board game and Invaders from Afar expansion for my husband. So I started with the Rusviet Union, which is Red and the characters are Olga Romanova & Changa the Tiger.

As you can see I started with a white prime on these guys and then blocked in some colours. I went for a black wash instead of a dark red because I wanted it to look super gritty.
You can king of see it in the image on the bottom right, I added some battle damage. I did this by using a piece of sponge dipped in black paint, removed most of it (like in dry brushing) and then dabbed it onto specific parts of the minis. I then went over these areas again with silver, but with much less paint on. Finally I took a tiny drill and drilled holes into the mini to look like gun shots. Some of the figures I slashed with a knife to make them look like they got cut up somehow.

I really worked hard to ensure that the main colour of each faction was strongly represented and that each faction had specific basing that related to the animal companions they had.
I initially had this tiger looking super bright so I added several layers of washes…. I think agrax earthshade is what I used…. to darken the tiger down more.
You can see the figure and the tiger. I will be honest, as beautiful as this board game is, the sculpts are really bad. You cant really tell for the mechs since they are not super detailed, but you can on the animals and people. The animals don’t have fur texture and the people are not defined especially in the face area which made painting them incredibly difficult.
In the end the whole thing looks amazing painted! And even I tried playing it even though I really don’t enjoy competitive gaming that much at all.
