I was sooooo excited to paint this faction. This is one from the Scythe Invaders from Afar expansions that has Asian themes. The is a bad ass purple character with a money familiar.

I really liked the shape and sculpt of these mechs and immediately felt a more regal and ornate theme. I wanted to go with bright and rich and gold.

I washed the purple with a purple citadel wash instead of a black wash like the other mechs. I didn’t want the same gritty oily look. The purple is cleaner and more subtle. The gold was washed with sepia, again, to not make it gritty but still give dimension.

Finally I did want it to look a little aged as it goes with the theme of the game so I added the usual type of battle damage.

Queue me screwing up over and over again. I didn’t take pics thankfully. I wanted the basing to be lush jungle grass. I tried to short cut and didnt paint the basing material and just glued grass flocking to it. The issue was that even with that the edge where the grass and the purple base meet had an obvious white dividing line. So to fit it I thought I would paint purple over the white line, but the problem was that the grass flocking was sticking itself onto the purple part of the base. Sigh. Time to try and save the the mini with some scary measures. I took the Webster and Newton Brush cleaner and restorer, this still melts anything acrylic when it comes in contact. So I needed to rub this over the purple part of the base without getting any at all on my hands and rubbing it off the figure itself. It was mostly successful. Next I needed to get all the grass that I had glued on back off. Best way was to slide an exacto blade under the rocks initially glued on and remove all the basing in one foul swoop.
Phew, mini saved.
Once that was done I could start again and not cut corners. I painted the base purple, painted the inside of the base green, glued down grass and then the Army Painter Poison Ivy flocking.

Time to focus on the figure and not rush it, rushing causes me to take short cuts and make mistakes.
As you can see the figures in the expansions are sooooo much better and a ton more detailed. I also found the plastic to be a lot harder. The animals all have fur and the people have real faces. Stonemaier listened!
I again wanted her to match the mechs and did her dress in purple with a purple dress. The money I googled Japanese moneys and tried to copy their gray colour scheme. Also, the gold breastplate matches the mechs too.

I learned a lot from these figures but they were a bunch of fun to paint.

Nice touch with the lush greenery. Makes the mechs look much bigger.
